PLYMOUTH YACHT REGATTA 2016

Plymouth Regatta will take place over the weekend of the 16th & 17th July.
During the event we will be hosting the national championships for the Devon Yawls and we expect to have a big and very competitive fleet participating. Additionally the J24 fleet will be using the regatta as a ‘tune-up’ prior to their Europeans that are to be held in Plymouth during August.
This year the Plym Yacht Club will host racing for the port’s Cruiser fleet and White Sail fleets starting and finishing their races from the Plym YC club line off the end of Mountbatten breakwater. Their racing will be ‘round the cans’ with 6 races planned for the Cruisers and 2 races planned for the White Sail fleets.
Inside the Sound but starting and finishing from a committee boat will be racing for the Devon Yawls, J24s, Seascapes and Squibs. These races will be around laid marks and 5 races are planned sailing either ‘windward leeward’ or ‘sausage triangle’ courses depending on class requirements.
The Plym YC will host early evening socials for their Cruiser and White Sail fleets directly after racing at their recently refurbished club in Oreston.
Regatta headquarters will again be the Royal Western YC and the Tavy Tars sea shanty band is booked for the Saturday night of the regatta. The RWYC will be open all day throughout the event for regatta followers, and the club will host the final event prize giving on Sunday afternoon.
Taking place at the same time south of the main Plymouth Sound breakwater over a 3 day period (15th – 17th), will be the IRC South Western Championships hosted by the RWYC. Evening socials and final event prize giving will be combined events with the Plymouth Regatta making for a great social occasion for all participants families and friends.
